Icarus Paragliding offers tandem paragliding flights around Cape Town and Hermanus, South Africa. We also offer basic training courses for people looking to become paragliding pilots. We are a family-run business and dedicate our time to providing friendly, safe and fun experiences for our customers.

The company is named after a Greek mythology which tells the story of Icarus, who used makeshift wings to escape from the island of Crete in Greece. Unfortunately, Icarus fell from the sky when the wax that joined his wings together, melted from the heat of the sun.

Icarus Paragliding owner and pilot, Jacques du Plessis, experienced a similar story at age 8, when he constructed some wings and flew off his two-storey house. Luckily, he was not injured. But this experience made Jacques want to fly even more! Later in life, he was introduced to paragliding which eventually became his career. In 2009, Jacques ranked 2nd in South Africa for Tandem Paragliding and, in 2011, he ranked number one!

Jacques and his wife, Louise, created Icarus Paragliding in 2013 and have been taking like-minded flyers on adventures around the Western Cape ever since!
